Sometime in 2008 Rob was sent on a quest from the dark lord himself to assemble a clan of mighty musicians (at the time he was beating his skin but realised that his real love was for strumming his instrument).
On his journey he came across King Richie and his mighty weapon, while discovering his own split personality of DonkeyBear (I would explain, but that would take too long and I am tired of seeing that disgusted face), so back to the mission at hand.
With his trusty sidekick Martin slapping his piece around they auditioned some random bird over the phone that turned out to be a filthy pixie chick called Sparky.
With Nigel completing this twisted little clan beating his skins hard and fast, Age of Misrule were conceived in the coldest bungalow in the middle of nowhere.
They all share a mutual love of pie and rock.
Age of Misrule, wicked name no?
Well we thought so, and so did many of you on facebook when we ran a poll on what to call this band of misfits. Suggestions were made (some more pleasant then others) which was narrowed down from 50, to 3 which the band proceeded to spend an entire practice session deciding on. The name that came out as a unanimous favourite was of course, Age of Misrule.
Some of you may or may not know that “Age of Misrule” is not just a band (shocking I know) but the title of a trilogy of books written by a most talented British author, Mark Chadbourn.
Mark is the author of 14 novels and 1 non-fiction book. His first published short story won the Best New Author award in Fear magazine. A two-time winner of the British Fantasy Award, World's End (the first book in the Age of Misrule trilogy) was nominated for the prestigious August Derleth Award for Best Novel (an international award in the fantasy, science fiction and horror fields, previously won by Stephen King and Clive Barker among others), as was Nocturne, and has also been nominated for the British Fantasy Society's Best New Talent award. A former journalist, he is now a screenwriter for a BBC television drama.
With Caroline devouring these books within a month, and the name characterising what the band is set out to acheieve, the birth of Age of Misrule was complete.
